Solar farms operating models

MAS Solar’s EPC division is providing Greenpower to private solar farm (Utility Scale) solutions across India. Different power procurement models are CAPEX (100% Own investment), Zero upfront investment (under OPEX model) and minimum investment (under Group Captive model)

CAPEX model, CAPEX stands for Capital Expenditure. The customer has required to pay the total cost of the solar system upfront. This allows the customers to own the solar system and makes them eligible to avail of the accelerated depreciation benefits.

OPEX stands for Operating Expense (Built-Own-Operate) also called Renewable energy service company (RESCO), this model is a zero-investment approach in which the user pays only for the power generated, but the solar plant is installed, operated and maintained by the RESCO developer. PPA stands for Power Purchase Agreement. Consumers are required to sign a Power Purchase Agreement(PPA) of purchasing electricity from RESCO at a specified rate for a certain years. These agreements are usually signed for 15~25 years.

Group Captive model
Solar Power plant is developed for the collective usage of one or many corporate buyers. Any one sets up a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for group captive wherein the corporate buyer(s) holds only 26 percent of equity in a project and needs to collectively consume at least 51% of the power with the PPA.
